VICENZA ART CENTER RENOVATION
The Art Center is also getting a major makeover beginning sometime in September. The building renovation project will be done in two phases. Phase I will take approximately 6 months to complete. During this phase the Woodshop will remain open in the current location while the focus is on renovating the rest of the building. During this period customers can still sign up for classes, book craft parties and obtain custom framing in a temporary location in the Outdoor Rec Bldg. 249, near the Aldo Moro Gate. The hours of operation for both locations will be Wed-Fri 11 a.m.-.6 p.m., Sat-Sun 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and closed Mon and Tue.
The entire operation will close for two weeks in the beginning of September during the move to the temporary space and storage of equipment to be used after the renovation. As early as January 2008, the Wood Shop will closed for Phase II when upgrades will be made to that section of the building. At this time the Art Center will move back into the newly renovated portion. The results will be worth the wait. Customers can expect a new sales store where artists and crafters can purchase supplies. Those bringing in custom framing will find mat and frame selection much easier with the new visualization software which lets you see what your choice will look like. Full spectrum lighting provides more accurate color definition of artwork, prints and paintings and detail work.
If you are a do-it-your-self framer, you can look forward to using the best equipment in the industry to complete your projects.
The new multi-craft classroom will be equipped with a kitchen for use in parties, and classes like culinary arts, cake decorating and candle making. Ceramic artists will enjoy expanded possibilities with Raku and slip casting added to the wheel and hand building, in the new studio. The upgrades in the Woodhsop include new machinery, hand tools, a new dust collection system and a refinishing room to create a woodworkers dream space. The new center will also have an outdoor lounge and a resource room stocked with hundreds of new books and magazines to inspire your creations in art history, painting, fiber arts, woodworking and restoration, pottery, paper crafts, photography, beading, graphic and interior design, kids crafts and much more. So while you’re waiting for the new Art Center to be completed in the spring, you can get busy planning all the creative projects you will be able to do in our new space. For current information on the project and closure dates contact the Art Center at DSN 634-7074.
